TITLE: Bottle of whiskey

OBJECT: Bottle of whiskey

DOCTRINE: Redemption

STORY WITH THE OBJECT

In the bar, they treat you to another drink and you say, “Great! Free drinks!” But it is so easy to lose control! You start with one drink, and after a few hours, you are totally drunk, doing embarrassing things.

TRANSITION TO THE SPIRITUAL

This is not only true with alcohol, but with many other areas in our lives.

THE PROBLEM (LAW)

It is so easy to lose control with lying! We think it is only a little white lie, but before we realize it, lying has become second nature to us. We also lose control with our eyes. You think one day looking at pornography won’t hurt anything, but before you realize it, you are totally dominated by lust. You start speaking evil of someone and sooner or later you are totally controlled by criticism, killing other people’s reputations, even those you call your friends.

THE CONSEQUENCES (ETERNITY)

All of these things have terrible and eternal consequences. If you are controlled by sin, you will have to give an account to God on your Judgment Day, and Jesus warned you would go to a place where the pain is so intense that you will gnash your teeth for all eternity.

THE SOLUTION (CROSS)

Who can set you free from your sin? There is only one who can do it: Jesus Christ, the perfect one who never lost control because he never sinned.  His life was an example of obedience to God, and He chose to receive the punishment and you and I deserve for our sin. When Jesus died on the cross and rose again, He obtained the power to set us free from our sin.

THE CALL (REPENTANCE AND FAITH)

If you are willing to repent towards God and surrender your life to Jesus, you can be set free from your sin. It is not just a temporary change, but true, genuine freedom that allows you to spend eternity with God.
