TITLE: Dead-End Road

OBJECT: Traffic sign showing dead end

DOCTRINE: Sanctification

STORY WITH THE OBJECT

As a friend of mine traveled to his home town, he realized that the highways had changed, but he decided to follow the same route he had always taken. He saw a traffic sign that said, “DEAD END”, but he didn’t pay any attention to it.  500 meters later he realized it really was a dead end because he saw another sign that said, “I TOLD YOU SO.”

TRANSITION TO THE SPIRITUAL

Many of us live our lives believing that it doesn’t matter if we follow God’s signs warning us that the road we are following is the wrong road, and we continue following the ways of wickedness.

THE PROBLEM (LAW)

God says there is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.  The way of lying, the way of stealing, the way of envy, and the way of hatred and unforgiveness seem right to us at times. Yet God gives us warning signs that these ways are evil and in the end will lead us to an evil destination.

THE CONSEQUENCES (ETERNITY)

The bad news is that when you arrive at the end of that road, there will not be a sign that says I TOLD YOU SO, but rather one that says ETERNAL DEATH, a true dead end with no escape in a place of eternal suffering called hell.

THE SOLUTION (CROSS)

The good news is that there is another way that is the only way to eternal life.  This way is Jesus Christ.  When He died on the cross, he paid the price for all of your sin and rose again to offer you forgiveness and a new beginning.  Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me.”

THE CALL (REPENTANCE AND FAITH)

Today you are at a crossroads.  You can ignore God’s warning signs and continue on your way of wickedness that leads to death, or you can stop following your own road, change direction, and begin to follow Jesus, the only way to heaven.  Which road will you choose to take today?
