TITLE: Frankenstein

OBJECT: Frankenstein mask or doll

DOCTRINE: Substitution

STORY WITH THE OBJECT

Everyone wants to have the perfect body.  A story is told of a doctor who tried to create the perfect body, using body parts from different cadavers.  The result of his experiment was a monster instead of a perfect person.  Dr. Frankenstein violated the laws of science, and the consequence was a monster that ended up killing him.

TRANSITION TO THE SPIRITUAL

Just like Dr. Frankenstein, we want to have a perfect life, but in our effort to obtain it, we violate God’s laws, the Ten Commandments.

THE PROBLEM (LAW)

We create a monster inside of us when we lie, steal, harbor bitterness, commit impure acts, or use God’s name as a curse word.

THE CONSEQUENCES (ETERNITY)

This monster of sin controls us, kills us spiritually, and will end up condemning us to hell.  There are no Frankensteins in heaven.

THE SOLUTION (CROSS)

The best news is that God sent someone that can remove this monster from our life, and that person is Jesus Christ.  He was perfect; He never sinned.  Yet He died on a cross in order to kill the monster of sin.  Only a perfect person would have the power to do that.

THE CALL (REPENTANCE AND FAITH)

If we repent and put all of our trust in Christ, He will kill the monster of sin in our lives.  And when we invite Jesus Christ, the only perfect one, to come into our lives, on the day we stand before God, God will see the “perfect one” in us, and will allow us into His perfect heaven.
