STORY WITH THE OBJECT
One winter a few years ago, I was locked out of my house because I lost my keys. When I arrived at midnight, I wanted to get in, but I couldn’t. It was horrible! I looked all over for my keys, but couldn’t find them. The only solution I found was to go to a church and spend the night there, and it was the longest and coldest night of my life.
TRANSITION TO THE SPIRITUAL
I’m telling you about this because there is a house we all want to enter when we die: heaven, God’s house, a beautiful place. But to enter we need the right keys.
THE PROBLEM (LAW)
The keys are God’s laws, the Ten Commandments. God said, “My son, if you want to enter my house, do not steal,” but the truth is we are a bunch of thieves taking what doesn’t belong to us. God also said, “If you want to get into my house, do not kill,” but you and I murder people in our hearts, hating them and speaking evil of them. God also said, “My son, if you want to enter my house, do not commit adultery, take care of your body and honor it,” but we don’t obey. We constantly entertain lustful thoughts and are immoral. God said, “My son, if you want to enter my house, love Me above everything else,” but we don’t do it.
THE CONSEQUENCES (ETERNITY)
The truth is we have lost the keys to enter the perfect house of God. If we do not enter heaven when we die, there is only one other place called hell, a place of eternal suffering, far from God’s presence.
THE SOLUTION (CROSS)
I spent only one night locked out of my house and it was terrible. But to be locked out of heaven will last an eternity! There is only one way to recover the keys we have lost. Jesus Christ came 2000 years ago and never lost His keys because He lived a perfect life, without breaking one of God’s laws. He gave His life on the cross, receiving God’s wrath that our sins deserved. When He rose again the third day, He regained the keys that you and I had lost.
THE CALL (REPENTANCE AND FAITH)
If you want to receive the keys to enter God’s house, you must come to Jesus, turn from your sin, and give your life to Him.
