STORY WITH THE OBJECT
Adam and Eve enjoyed a perfect relationship with God and dominion over all creation. But they decided to ignore the restrictions they had been given, ate the forbidden fruit, and suffered the consequences of their disobedience through shame and a broken relationship with God. Adam and Eve hid themselves, trying to cover their nakedness. So God had to shed the blood of an innocent animal to make clothing and cover them.
TRANSITION TO THE SPIRITUAL
We are very similar to Adam and Eve.
THE PROBLEM (LAW)
We have also been given some restrictions, which are God’s commandments. But we have decided to ignore them. Instead of loving our neighbor, we deceive him, we curse him, and we hate him. Instead of loving God, we blaspheme him, we turn our backs on him, and we disobey him. Just like Adam and Eve, we hide ourselves, covering our shame with appearances and excuses.
THE CONSEQUENCES (ETERNITY)
In the same way, the consequences of Adam and Eve’s rebellion was to be cast out of God’s presence in the Garden of Eden, the consequences of our rebellion is to be cast out of God’s presence for eternity in hell. Sin cannot enter God’s holy presence.
THE SOLUTION (CROSS)
But God, knowing that we have been disobedient to his commandments, sent an innocent sacrifice to cover our shame and dress us in his righteousness. I am talking about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came to earth, was tempted in everything but without sin, shed his blood, died on the cross, and rose the third day. His sacrifice can cover your sin forever.
THE CALL (REPENTANCE AND FAITH)
What condition are you in before God? Do you need someone to cover your sin and shame? Come to Jesus. Give him your filthy rags of sin and receive his clothing of righteousness. Live for the one who gave His life for you. Don’t hide yourself anymore; run to Jesus!
