TITLE: Smartphone

OBJECT: A Smartphone

DOCTRINE: Justification

STORY WITH THE OBJECT

I have my smartphone here. I don’t know how many of you have one, but for me it is a very useful tool. If I get lost, I have a GPS; if I want to find out about something, I have google; there are millions of applications for just about anything, and it can even make and receive phone calls!

TRANSITION TO THE SPIRITUAL

In the same way, our lives are like a smartphone. We keep adding apps that we use in many ways.

THE PROBLEM (LAW)

Even as children, we learn to lie. We download the app of lying and we use it for many things: to come out ahead, to hide things we’ve done from others, to impress others, etc. And little by little, we download many apps like stealing, pride, unfaithfulness, and speaking evil of others. They all are useful to us in some way, but they all have a cost. They are not free.

THE CONSEQUENCES (ETERNITY)

One day God will look over all of the apps we have downloaded into our heart, and He will judge us by each one of them. On that day God will see all of your sin, and you will realize that the cost of those apps is enormous. It will take all of eternity for you to pay for every evil thing you have done in a place of separation from God called hell.

THE SOLUTION (CROSS)

But in spite of all you’ve done, God loves you and wants to set you free from all of your sinful apps. That is why He sent his son, Jesus Christ. Jesus never downloaded a sinful app and when He died, He was paying the price for all of your sin, and thanks to his death and resurrection, you can be forgiven.

THE CALL (REPENTANCE AND FAITH)

In order to receive his forgiveness, you must repent of your sin and surrender your life to Jesus. He will delete every sin from your heart and give you new apps that will be good and pleasing to him.
