TITLE: Time Flies
OBJECT: A Clock
STORY WITH THE OBJECT
The other day I was having a coffee at a coffeeshop and on the sugar packet was this proverb: “The bad news is that time flies. The good news is that you are the pilot.”
TRANSITION TO THE SPIRITUAL
This made me think: How are we piloting our lives?
THE PROBLEM (LAW)
When you choose to use your words to lie, criticize or blaspheme God’s name, you are diverting your course from the right way and moving farther and farther from God. When you choose to fill your thoughts with lust, envy, hatred, and bitterness, you are diverting your course from the right way and moving farther and farther from God. Or when you decide to have sex outside of marriage, or encourage someone to abort their defenseless child, diverting your course from the right way and moving farther and farther from God.
THE CONSEQUENCES (ETERNITY)
One day your time will run out. God will respect the choices you have made and tell you: You have chosen a path that leads you far from me during your whole life, and so your eternal destiny will be in a place far from me - in hell. We will receive the consequences for our own choices.
THE SOLUTION (CROSS)
If this situation concerns you, then I have good news for you! Jesus Christ came to reconcile you to God. He himself made peace with God on the cross, paying for all your sin and making a bridge to bring you to God again. His resurrection proves that the way to God is now open. Now it depends on you.
THE CALL (REPENTANCE AND FAITH)
It’s time to return to God.
It’s time to leave your sin behind.
It’s time to give your life to Jesus and follow his path.
What will you do? Will you continue your own road that leads you farther and farther from God? Or will you change direction, leave your sin behind, and return to God?
